Etiquette

We truly feel we have some of the best parents in the dance world of Davis County ;) We just want to remind everyone and highlight some basic competition rules as a good refresh:

  • Please have dancers ready ONE HOUR before dancing time and be prepared with all costume pieces. This means fully ready to dance, in costume, hair, makeup etc... meaning dancers should arrive about an hour and fifteen minutes early.

  • While in the audience, dressing rooms, hallways or anywhere please do not speak negatively of any other studio, dancers, teams, etc..

  • We go to the competitions as Rhythm Works and expect that the audience shows support for our entire studio, not just your individual dancers. Cheer loud! It helps the dancers on stage a lot.

  • Remember, placement is all based upon 3-4 judges OPINIONS. We expect our dancers to perform their best and are so proud of them regardless of placement. Again, please do not complain or speak negatively, especially through awards. Your dancer will react how you do.

  • You may record your own daughters performance AS LONG AS THE COMPETITION DOES NOT HAVE RULES AGAINST IT. Please do not post full dance routines on Social Media as it is the right of the choreographer.

  • No parents/ spectators will be allowed backstage. That is for coaches and dancers only. Team moms will watch all performances from the audience.

  • Don't interrupt coaches while working with teams. They will be running around most days so please let them do their jobs as uninterrupted as possible

  • Dancers should be wearing team wear jackets upon arrival AND during awards

  • Be kind to the staff! Both the competition staff and RW staff members work long days over again. A friendly smile and thank you are always appreciated and welcome!

  • If you see a need, fulfill a need. We have parents with multiple dancers and coaches with multiple classes. If you see someone looks lost or in need of a hand, help them out! Coaches don't always get a lot of breaks so check in with them occasionally.

  • Keep dance area clean and organized. Label all costume pieces and shoes so if anything gets lost we can easily find the owner. Remember, leave our dressing room areas better than we found them. Every bobby pin and safety pin needs to be thrown away.

  • No men allowed in the dressing room area or where pop-up tents are.

  • Have fun with the long days!! Take a lot of pictures and live fully in the moment, it all goes by way too fast!

PACKING AND PREPARATION NOTES:

  • PIN ALL COSTUMES! Even if a neck feels secure, pin it to be safe, we don't want any costume malfunctions on stage... it happens!

  • Bobby pin hair and use a hair net! Make sure all little flyaway hairs are sprayed down and that dancers have a nice clean bun

  • Dancers should not be wearing colored bra or underwear! Bras must be skin tone with clear shoulder and back straps. If a dancer needs to wear underwear, they should be NUDE SEAMLESS underwear. Some classes have also been advised to wear black seamless underwear with costumes.

  • USE BUTT GLUE!! This helps costumes so much. When applying, make sure to dry until it gets tacky before sticking the costume/ underwear or else it will not stay in place.

  • All dancers MUST wear lipstick, blush/bronzer, mascara. Older dancers should include eyeshadow, eyeliner, and fake eyelashes to help with the harsh stage lights.

  • Dancers have to wear TWO shoes or no shoes, if teacher says okay. Competitions will dock points for one shoe only. Please make sure dancers are performing in their nice pair of shoes (every dancer received two pair at the first of the year. If you need additional shoes, visit the office.

We are so excited to have the craziness of competition season here! Please remember that dancers not in class the week of a performance will be spaced out as well as those with excessive absences and a spacing fee will be charged. THIS INCLUDES ALL TECHNIQUE CLASSES! This policy was stated and initialed in your contracts and should not be new information.

Coaches are prepared and ready to make changes as needed. It is EXTREMELY difficult on coaches and team members to constantly work spacing. Please, please BE IN CLASS! It is full on competition season and we expect full commitment. Dancers can make up hours and work with your coach privately if needed. Dance is a team sport and we rely so heavily on each individual member of that team to be successful. Please do your part.

Again, we are so excited to jump into competitions and put the dancers hard work on stage. Thank you all for being here and supporting your dancers.

Let's go do this thing!!!
